See what your gift actually costs you
Use this 80G tax savings calculator to estimate your tax benefit on donations to Unessa Foundation. Enter your donation amount to see your potential tax saving and what your gift may really cost after the eligible 80G deduction.
This is an estimate, not tax advice. Your actual saving depends on your regime, slab and total 80G donations (some 80G gifts are capped at 10% of adjusted gross total income). Please confirm with a tax professional.
How the 80G tax benefit on your donation works
Is a donation to Unessa Foundation eligible for 80G?
Yes. Unessa Foundation holds valid 80G and 12A registration, so donations qualify for a deduction under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. The standard deduction is 50% of the amount you donate, subject to the qualifying limit.
How much tax will I actually save?
You deduct 50% of your gift from your taxable income, then save tax on that at your slab rate (plus 4% cess). For example, a ₹10,000 donation gives a ₹5,000 deduction; a donor in the 30% slab saves about ₹1,560, so the gift really costs them ₹8,440.
Use the calculator above to see the number for your amount and slab.
Do I need to be on the old tax regime?
Yes — this matters. 80G deductions are available only under the old tax regime. Under the new regime (now the default in India) a donation gives no income-tax benefit, so your net cost equals your donation. Your impact on a child’s learning is exactly the same either way.
What if my taxable income is under ₹5 lakh?
If your taxable income is up to ₹5 lakh, the Section 87A rebate already brings your tax to zero, so a donation won’t reduce it further. The calculator shows ₹0 saved for that band on purpose — we’d rather be accurate than overstate. (This rebate is for residents; NRIs don’t get it.)
Can I pay by cash, and is there a minimum?
Donations above ₹2,000 must be non-cash to qualify for 80G. Every gift to Unessa is made online, so this is always covered.
What do I need to claim the deduction?
You need an 80G receipt and Form 10BE from Unessa, which we issue for your donation. Report the donation under Section 80G when you file your income tax return, and keep the receipt for your records.
Can NRIs claim 80G on a donation to Unessa?
Yes, if you have income taxable in India and file an Indian return under the old regime, an 80G donation to Unessa is deductible in the same way. The 50% deduction and slab-based saving apply; the ₹5 lakh rebate does not.
